The Whites 2nd string made it 10 points from the last 12 available with a not so comfortable 1-0 win over Melksham Town Reserves.
Thanks to Magic man Pete Robinson on arrival at the Ray Mac despite the weather, the pitch looked immaculate. However, during the warm up there was a downpour which thankfully only lasted 20 minutes, so 40 drowned rats left the pitch to get into dry match kit. Thankfully that was the last we saw of any rain until the final whistle.
The game started with both sides looking lively, and you wouldn’t have been surprised if it was 2-2 after 30 minutes, however it was on 34 minutes before either found the quality in the box to go ahead, and that was the home team. It took a precision pass from Gabriel Spennato to play through the lines and into the path of Carson Arnold and his trickery took him past his only challenger and in on a one on one with the keeper. The player kept his cool and waited for the keeper to commit and squared the ball to Roocroft who had an open goal to slide it into. 1 v 0 to Salisbury and that was how it ended at half time.
2nd period the Whites created numerous chances but good defending by Melksham and some missed opportunities meant we didn’t add to the score line. That said the visitors also had chances but very rarely troubled Dan McCarthy in the home goal. Arnold, Mads and Roocroft had chances and on another day and all that, it could of ended differently but in the end it was a game where defences stayed solid and only a bit of magic broke the deadlock.
Next up we take a break from league action when we visit league leaders Trowbridge town next Saturday in the league cup.
