The development head to Amesbury Towns Bonnymead park on Saturday for what will be the last time this season when Malmsbury Victoria’s 2nd string are the visitors in this Wilts premier league encounter. The Vic’s are tied on 37 points in the table with the whites, although we have played two games less than the away side. This will the first time this season the two teams have met. That fact though will change in under a month when we will meet again at the Flying Monk ground.
The young whites will be fielding their youngest squad of the season for this one with three 16 year old’s players joining the squad. Dyllan Roocroft, Henry Youd and Harry Mealing are set to make their debuts in the development squad. These players have come through the same footballing journey as many of the existing squad, playing in the JPL league. These lads have been playing top sides all over the South and West and you have to be technically good to play in that league.
Mark Winter comments ‘5 from our very talented U16’s squad have already been training with the dev for a good few weeks and have done fantastic. These three have been brought in for this week purely on merit. There are a couple more that would have also been in the running but we need to wait a couple of weeks for them to actually turn 16. One of those will actually keep the name Arnold going in the dev squad, Carson, younger brother of Devon. Some of our players have moved on, others are out injured and that gives us the opportunity to give these lads the chance to taste football at this age level and see how they adapt. Bottom line is we are a development side and that’s what we are doing. I have no doubt that those development players that have already been signed to 1st team forms would physically and technically be able to cope at 1st team level, and in part that’s been aided by the last couple of seasons of playing adult football (on the whole) at a younger than normal age.
If your not travelling up to London with the 1st team then please come over to Amesbury and support the side.
