Despite Will Buse saving a penalty for the home side, Torquay were still able to snatch all three points and secure their first away win of the season.

The deadlock was broken in the 8th minute, as Jay Foulston cut a ball back across the box to the Torquay skipper, Matt Worthington, who slotted the ball past Will Buse.

Their next chance came in the 16th minute, when it was Worthington on the ball again. He looked to bag his second, launching an effort from range. Will Buse dived across his goal, but the attempt went wide of his right-hand post.

Salisbury launched an attack 29 minutes in, as a ball in from Noah Coppin flashed across the face of goal. There were no white shirts waiting to get on the end of it, so the Torquay defence cleared.

Just minutes later, Louis Dennis was deemed to have been unfairly dispossessed in the box, with the referee awarding a penalty to the visitors. Jordan Young stepped up to take it in front of the travelling supporters. He drove his shot low to his left, but Will Buse dived expertly and managed to get two strong hands onto the ball.

Jordan Young tried to get revenge in the 32nd minute, but Will Buse was not troubled by the effort.

Deep into the second half, Salisbury were trying to muscle back into the game. Substitute Matty Taylor played in Harry Tustin, who was met by a wall of yellow. He tried to force his way through, but his effort was in vain as Torquay regained possession.

It took only minutes for the hosts to have another attempt, this time Matt Briggs finding himself one-on-one with James Hamon. He tried to play it low, but the keeper made himself big and blocked the shot.

The 77th minute brought a flurry of Salisbury chances, with Josh Sommerton initially crossing the ball into the box, only for it to be cleared by Torquay — but only as far as Noah Coppin, who unleashed a first-time shot. James Hamon pulled off the save.

In Salisbury’s next fixture, they will face Slough Town at the Ray Mac on the 18th October.
