Salisbury came away with all three points from Chippenham after a big slice of luck gave Brian Dutton's side victory in the Wiltshire Derby.
The game was a tactical battle, with both sides having chances to win them, but with both defences and goalkeepers having good games. A moment of luck settled it in Salisbury's favour when Will King sliced his clearance up and over Will Henry in the game's final stages.
The game got off to a slow start, with few chances, and it was Salisbury who first fully tested a 'keeper.
A good attacking move ended when Ronan Silva, lurking at the back post, had the ball land at his feet after a half-blocked cross, but a combination of defender and Chippenham 'keeper Will Henry blocked his effort away in the 22nd minute.
There was a big intervention again from Henry in the 33rd minute. Aiden Elliott-Wheeler stretched the Blues defence and put in a low cross. The Chippenham stopper got down well to push the ball away from the awaiting Lewis Brown, who would have had a tap in otherwise.
The home side had been frustrated for much of the first half, but it was almost a Salisbury own goal that opened the scoring. Leone Gravata forced his way into the box, and a deflection off Josh Sommerton was well dealt with by Rhys Bryne, who moved his feet well to prevent the ball from bouncing into the back of the Salisbury net on the stroke of halftime.
Level at the break, the home side came out with more intent in the second half, which caused some problems for Salisbury.
Byrne was called into action in the 57th minute when he made one good save to prevent Alex Bray from opening the scoring and then combined with Sido Jombati to block Tom Mehew's follow-up from the rebound.
Chippenham went close again when, in the 67th minute, good build-up play from the home side put Gravata into the box. However, he couldn't keep his effort down, and Bryne watched it sail over the bar.
The Blues created a couple more half chances before the moment that settled the game.
Noah Coppin, a second-half substitute, showed a willingness to get the ball into the box. His cross was met by Will King, who had time and space to clear the ball, but he sliced his attempted clearance badly. It looped up and over Will Henry and clipped the post on its way into the back of the net.
Salisbury were able to see the remainder of the game out, generally keeping Chippenham at arm's length, completing the double over their Wiltshire rivals this season, and lifting themselves 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
